Frank O’Gorman from FaithCT.net posted a great comment on my previous post about the many other issues the Constitutional Convention could affect, if allowed. the rights of many minorities, from rape victims to teachers, are at stake.

Sara, in addition to marriage equality, other issues that could be threatened by ballot initiatives and referenda include:

Abortion Rights
Emergency Contraception for Rape Victims
Affirmative Action
Anti-Poverty Programs
Judicial Discretion in Sentencing
Public Education Funding
Comprehensive Sex Education
Human Rights to Housing & Employment for Transgender & Gender Non-conforming People
Healthcare, Social Services, & College Assistance for Immigrants
Collective Bargaining
Binding Arbitration
Healthcare & Retirement Benefits of Public Servants
Euthanasia

In sum, as you say, the rights of women and virtually every minority group could be attacked!

so a yes vote on the Constitutional Convention could detrimentally affect a vast number of people, straight and gay alike. check out FaithCT.net and CTVoteNo for more information on ways you can help stop this initiative.

thanks for your input, Frank!
